Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

High-resolution Interferometric Imaging

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a high-resolution interferometric imaging technique widely used in biomedical and industrial contexts. A recurring issue is the speed of OCT imaging, which is limited by either the speed of spectrometers in spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) or the speed of sweeping wavelengths in a tuneable laser in swept source OCT (SS-OCT).

Proximion’s chirped FBG technology provides a vital element in a novel tuneable swept source which allows OCT imaging to occur at MHz rates, which brings a paradigm shift to the field.

Proximion’s Capability

For this application, Proximion’s ability to make longer chirped FBGs is a key competence. The ability to manufacture FBGs with precise frequency chirp allows the development and manufacture of fast wavelength swept sources, opening up a new chapter in OCT imaging for biomedical and NDT (non-destructive test) applications.

Applications

  • Retinal imaging in ophthalmology.
  • Structural inspection in industry (microelectronics, MEMS).
  • Tissue engineering and research imaging.
  • Optical biopsy and medical diagnostics.
