Proximion’s Continuous Band Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM) represents the next step in dispersion management. The obvious strengths of traditional Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based DCMs are low loss, low non-linear effects, and small size, while Dispersion Compensating Fiber (DCF) based solutions have the advantage of full band and channel plan independent compensation. Proximion’s DCM is the first product to combine the best of both worlds.

Proximion’s DCM is the perfect solution for enhancing current and future system and amplifier designs. The low loss enables a higher degree of freedom when optimizing a system with respect to performance and cost. The fact that Proximion’s DCM has perfect slope compensation and is much less prone to distortion through non-linear effects compared to DCF based DCMs, makes it future proof for introduction of  higher bit rates and higher channel counts, an advantage that traditional channelized DCMs do not have.

Proximion’s FBG based DCM is fully compatible with current DCFs. Being completely passive and small in size, it can immediately replace DCF based solutions. The low height (16 mm) enables you to build plug-in boards containing full band dispersion compensation. Our FBG based DCM also enables based on cheap gain-block amplifiers without middle stage access. Other placements of DCMs are illustrated in the figure to the right.

The outstanding price/performance is achieved by Proximion’s unique in-house ability in FBG manufacturing, allowing automated writing of up to 10 meter long FBGs with nanometer precision. The excellent control of the writing process over the whole length of the grating ensures very low levels of group delay ripple over the full wavelength rang.
