Compact solution offers wider bandwidth and superior performance at lower cost

San Diego, California – February 25, 2008 — At the 2008 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC), Proximion Fiber Systems AB today announced the demonstration of its new 40 Gbps dispersion compensation module (DCM-ITU). DCM-ITU is a cost-effective dispersion compensation solution with a small form factor. Unlike competing alternatives, the DCM-ITU in wider bandwidth and has superior performance due to low group delay ripple (GDR). Highly suitable for cascaded applications, DCM-ITU is operates in 40Gbps as well as 10Gbps formats and over the entire C-band.

This of DCM-ITU supports bandwidth consuming modulation formats at 40Gbps. The bandwidth is wider than 42GHz, still enabling 100GHz channel spacing. The solution is ideally suited for metropolitan and regional networks. On optional basis, Proximion also provides channelized solutions with ITU-offsets of +33GHz, +50GHz and +66GHz from the ITU-grid, suitable for submarine applications, e.g. slope compensation.

With a unique and proprietary FBG manufacturing technology Proximion produces high performance dispersion compensation modules with the advantages of having no non-linear effects, no latency and having a very low signal and power loss compared to the alternative of traditional dispersion compensating fibers (DCFs).

“The DCM–ITU is perfect for those customers that don’t need 50-GHz channel spacing but still want to run 10bps and 40Gbps systems in a cost-effective way” says Stefan Ekman, CEO at Proximion. “The importance of dispersion management is increasing in all parts of the networks. We are already an established supplier to a number of systems vendors for applications up to 40Gbps.”

DCM-ITU is currently available on volume basis. Proximion will showcase DCM-ITU at OFC on February 26 – 28, Booth Number 3619.
